BURN PILE REGULATIONS
SIZE REGULATIONS: "RULE OF 4"
NO WOOD OR BRUSH OVER 4' LENGTH
NO WOOD OR BRUSH OVER 4" DIAMETER
-
Only CLEAN WOOD and brush will be accepted for open burning
on acceptable days.
No wood or brush accepted after 2:00 PM. Ever.
Fire must burn out by 6:00 PM to comply with state law on unattended fires.
-
Stumps up to 6" in diameter are accepted in Burn Pile.
Everything must be split or worked to size regulations.
-
Large commercial loads must be scheduled in advance and be in before noon.
Any necessary heavy equipment or materials will be supplied by the
owner/contractor.
-
The Transfer Station needs a fire permit every day. Permitting is weather
dependent. Dryness or winds make for "No burn" conditions. If the Transfer
Station is not issued a permit, it can't accept, stockpile, or
accumulate burnables. The Town of Rangeley is liable for suppression
costs if any fire spreads from the Transfer Station. No forest fire is cheap.
Help us burn safely by working with us.
-
If you plan on bringing burnables to the facility, call ahead after 8:30
AM.
The number is 864-5610. Thank you.
State Law prohibits burning UNCLEAN WOOD and all law enforcement agencies
must enforce them. Licensed facilities will only receive relicensing conditional
to enforcement.
UNCLEAN WOOD (pressure treated, particle boards, plywood, painted, stained,
shellacked, or other treated wood and timbers, etc.) will be deposited in
the Oversized Bulky Waste (OBW) bin.
The charge therefore is $10 per cubic yard. Please obtain your voucher
in advance from the Town Office or bring your check book with your load to
the Transfer Station. NO loads can be billed out or accepted without
payment.
Contractors: Price your remodeling jobs accordingly.
