for Non-friable Asbestos
Disposal Summary

1. HANDLING - CAUTION * * * CAUTION *** CAUTION
Asbestos is a special waste, the dust and fibers from which, have been clinically proven to contribute to lung cancer and respiratory illnesses. Such wastes should be handled only with great thought and care. Properly wet all material before handling and use adequate protective clothing, and approved breather masks.

2. TESTING
Bring a sample in an airtight container, labeled with your name, address, and phone number to the Advance Water Pollution Control Facility above the Airport to determine a non-friable designation.

3. ACCEPTANCE
If the sample comes back as non-friable asbestos, it may be disposed of at the Rangeley Region demo-debris landfill IF it is generated in a location of a supporting member. Proof of location is necessary.

4. PACKAGING
a. All containers should be leakproof and easily handled by the owner or subcontractor.

b. All containers must be labeled with

  1. the name of the owner.
  2. location of generation.
  3. the date.
c. All containers must be wrapped in TWO layers of leak-tight, 6 mil plastic, and sealed with DUCT tape.

5. RECORDS
The owner or subcontractor will present a copy of the original sample test results.

The attendant will inspect the load and see it is properly packaged and labeled. Any punctured, ripped, damaged, or improperly packaged containers will not be allowed disposal privilege.

The load will be scaled to determine total cubic yards and an appropriate disposal cost of $10 per cubic yard will be imposed.

The attendant will verify who the owner is, and the location of generation with; proper Identification such as a driver's license, car registration, or appropriate municipal tax receipts where necessary.

On the back of the test sheet, the attendant will record and keep for solid waste files;
  1. who the owner is
  2. location of generation
  3. total cubic yards disposed of
  4. the date the fee's collected
  5. a sketch of where the waste was placed in the landfill (mapping)

6. DISPOSAL
The facility will provide only the location in the Northeast corner of the landfill, at a present cost of $10 per cubic yard. The owner or subcontractor must carefully place the packaged and labeled waste where designated by the attendant on duty. The owner or subcontractor is also responsible for physically placing 6 inches of soil cover, completely over waste, at the time it is deposited.
